El Castillo is the most popular landmark of Chichen Itza which is dedicated to the serpent God Kukulkan. The architecture of the Pyramid of Kukulkan completely represents symbolism which gives more importance to the Mayan Calendar. There are 4 stairways each having 91 steps that leads to the central platform making the whole figure to 365 days of the solar year.
Juego de Pelota (Main Ball Court)
To the northwest of the El Castillo, the largest ball court of Juego de Pelota is situated which is the best-preserved ball court of the Mayan world. The walls are carved with Maya figures that are dressed as ball players which form beautiful scenes on the wall. The acoustics of the court are so clear that a person can be heard at the North Temple when he speaks from the opposite side.
Tzompantli (Temple of Skulls)
Central Mexico’s post-classic city is the place from where the theme for the Tzompantli has come. The heads of the sacrificial victims are carved in a row into the platform of stone like the rows of skulls. There are also carvings of eagles that are tearing hearts from the human victims which are also carved into stones.
